We’re excited to announce our new project! Chispa is a cultural cross-pollinator. The size of a small ark or a rolling garden shed, Chispa can serve as a theater, gallery and art production lab. It’s enlarged by dioramas, game boards, and sound umbrellas. Chispa is a series of public art events with performances and artist demonstrations led by Book and Wheel Works artists, Kate Connell and Oscar Melara. The project continues their goal to build a collective cultural life in Southeast San Francisco. Chispa sustains and builds on Connell and Melara’s fruitful decades-long collaborations with neighbors, local institutions and a multigenerational roster of Southeast San Francisco artists.
